Website Navigation

The importance of sensible, appropriate and ease of navigation of any website is often lost in the never ending "second guessing" of what the Search Engines are doing and how they operate.

This has led some websites to have been developed for Search Engines alone and the user, you and other human beings, being forgotten about.

Whilst getting SEO right is important, it is egually important (and moreso to some) for your website to be understood by humans.

How many times have you been to a website where you are unable to find your way around and at worst get lost and not know where you are.

We at Web Fundamenatals place great importance on how a website is built and spend much time on the fundamentals of getting the site map and consequently the navigation right.

We do this on paper before starting the build. This is very much like establishing a strong foundation before building the walls of a building. How many builders will build a house without a good foundation?

Once this is comprehended and understood a website can be built that will be easily navigated which also means it will be revisited and useful for the visitor.

Make sure you understand what you want your site to do. Look at it with all the empathy you can muster so you can see what it looks like to others when they are visiting. Don't be blinded by any "tech talk".

Make no mistake, if your site makes no sense to you it is unlikely to make sense to your visitors.
